Largest Wedding Cake In Baguio City Philippines!

BAGUIO CITY, Sept 8 (PIA) -- More than 10,000 people, led by United States Ambassador to the Philippines Harry K. Thomas, Mayor Mauriio Domogan and Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB) president Anthony de Leon, partook in the huge chocolate cake event in SM Baguio, Thursday.

Dubbed as the Largest Wedding Cake II, this is a major feature of the ninth Hotel and Restaurant Tourism (HRT) Weekend organized by the HRAB, which runs from September 6 to 8.

The cake measured 20.5 feet high (equivalent to a two storey building), 24 feet by 24 feet wide on the base and divided into four layers, 18 feet by 18 feet in the second layer, 12 feet by 12 feet in the third layer and 6 feet by 6 feet in the fourth layer, de Leon said.

It weighed close to three tons with 500 liters of cake frosting.

De Leon, who is also the general manager of Baguio Country Club (BCC), said the baking of the largest wedding cake is the contribution of the private sector that continuously entice foreign and domestic tourists to visit the city even during lean months.

BCC chef Art Nucaza led volunteers from the different schools in the city who labored for days and nights to come up with the cake, he said.

The HRAB presented its first largest wedding cake during the HRT Weekend in 2007.

The HRT Weekend remains the largest and most credible culinary showdown in the North.

Every year, HRAB never fails to come up with remarkable events to highlight the festivity such as the Longest and Tastiest Raisin Bread, Giant Ice Castles, the Longest Original Baguio Longganisa, Chefs on Parade, the Largest Pizza, Pasta Festival, and the Fried Rice Festival: Rice and Shine.

"HRAB will continue to innovate its attractions to the public so that we will be able to sustain the active participation of culinary institutions nationwide and the robust tourist arrivals in our city in the coming years,” de Leon said.

Thomas praised the people who worked in preparing the large cake, saying that it was able to serve its purpose of enticing visitors to again come up to Baguio and take a break. (JDP/JBZ- PIA CAR)
